Baking soda
It is a finely ground crystalline powder, white in color, odorless, with a salty (soapy) taste, which causes irritation when it gets on the mucous membranes. Easily dissolves in water. It is an acidic sodium salt of carbonic acid and sodium. It reacts with acids to form salt and carbonic acid, which immediately decomposes into carbon dioxide and water. At a temperature of 60 ° C, baking soda decomposes into sodium carbonate, carbon dioxide and water.
A distinctive feature is mild alkaline properties that do not have a harmful effect on animal and plant tissues.
Density – 2.159 g / cm³. Boiling point – 851 ° C, melting point – 270 ° C.
Use of baking soda.
Baking soda is widely used in various industries, national economy and in everyday life. It is used in the chemical, food, light, medical, pharmaceutical industry, non-ferrous metallurgy, etc.
In the food industry, it is registered as a food additive E500. The main application is cooking, baking, confectionery production, where it is mainly used as the main or additional leavening agent in baking, independently or as part of complex leavening agents and in ready-made mixtures for baking. It is also used in the production of carbonated drinks.
In medicine, a baking soda mixed with water is used as a weak antiseptic for rinsing, as well as a traditional acid-neutralizing agent for heartburn and stomach pain.
In the chemical industry, it is used for the production of dyes, foams and other organic products, fluorine reagents, household chemicals, fillers in fire extinguishers, for the separation of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide from gas mixtures. It is also part of the powder used in powder fire extinguishing systems, dissipating heat and displacing oxygen from the source of combustion, releasing carbon dioxide.
In light industry, sodium bicarbonate is used in the production of rubber soles and artificial leather, leather production (tanning and neutralization of leather), textile industry (processing of silk and cotton fabrics).
In everyday life, it is used as an excellent choice for cleaning, washing and removing stains and scale. Baking soda perfectly removes unpleasant odors, refreshes and cleans carpets, and removes the musty smell of old books. For medical purposes, baking soda is used for burns, including sunburn. It is an emergency aid for bee or wasp stings.
Packaging, transportation and storage.
Food soda is packed in four-layer or three-layer paper bags weighting up to 50 kg or in specialized single-use containers such as plastic big bag (MKR-1.0) type with polyethylene insert with weight not more than 1 ton. Sodium bicarbonate, intended for retail sale, is packed in packing for consumer – 500 and 1000 grams carton packs, 500 grams polyethylene bags.
Baking soda is transported by all means of transport (except air transport) in covered vehicles in accordance with cargo carriage regulations applicable to this type of transport. Sodium bicarbonate may be transported by automobile transport in bulk using specialized vehicles (such as flour truck) or specially made stainless steel containers. Specialized big bags are transported by railroad by open rolling stock by carload without reloading, with loading and unloading on the sender’s (recipient’s) approaching lines.
Soda is stored in closed warehouses. Filled plastic big bags and transport bags are stored either in covered warehouses or in open areas, in 2-3 tiers of height.
Guaranteed storage life – 12 months from the date of manufacture.
LLC “Company” Plasma “® delivers baking soda in bags and packs from a warehouse in Kharkov in time and at reasonable prices, on favorable terms for you.
